From Dec. 27, 2007, to Jan. 11, 2008, Grace KillianCuba flag traveled to Cuba with 25 other Americans, 21 other youth and four adults on the 2008 Mission of Peace. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, we will host Cuba Night, with Grace showing pictures and speaking about her trip to Cuba, which included working in the fields, worship services and trips to Old Havana and the Bay of Pigs. This is a covered-dish dinner, so please bring a dish to share.

Fashions will be provided by Coldwater Creek in the Galleria. A delicious lunch will be served to our guests Flair logoby the men of the church. Models will be our own lovely ladies, and their hairstyles will be provided by KrisRichards Salon.  Tickets are now on sale after church services for $20 per person.  Shirley Baker or Barbara Watson may be contacted for ticket information. Theme baskets and door prizes will add interest to the day’s activities. This is an excellent way to entertain guests and family members. And remember ... all proceeds benefit women, children and youth throughout the world.

MLUMC will honor our graduates on Sunday, June 1. If you know of a student graduating from any institution – high school, college, trade or technical school – please call Betsy Harkins at 412-561-2034 with the student’s name and school. Names are needed by mid-May so an announcement can be drafted for June 1.  Also, if any MLUMC members have graduated from college since last spring, give Betsy a call with their name and school.

BibleA women's Bible study is held each Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Brookline Parlor, on the church's third level adjacent to our Sanctuary. Rev. Kimberly Greway leads.

Can you cut fabric, measure, iron, sew, knit, crochet, or quilt, or do you want to learn?  Do you like to help people?  Then, we’ve got the group for you!  We recently formed a new mission-focused group at Mt. Lebanon UMC that produces school kit bags, afghans, quilts, baby sweaters, booties, and hats for people in need.

On the 1st Thursdays of the month we meet together to show each other our projects we’ve been working on at home and to share our ideas and patterns.  We also try to introduce new gadgets and techniques at these meetings.

On the 4th Thursdays of the month we meet to work together.  You can bring whatever project you want – knitting, crochet, needlepoint, sewing, quilting – and share in a time of fellowship.

But …not everyone can sew!  That’s fine!  You don’t need to be able to sew/knit/crochet to help our mission projects.  We have lots of ironing, cutting, organizing, and planning to do.  Also, we are very excited about teaching people new skills.  Have you always wanted to learn to crochet, knit, sew, or craft?  We can help!  Come and learn!

Nothing But Nets Banner Malaria infects more than 500 million people each year, and more than a million die from the disease, yet fewer than 5 percent of African children sleep under a mosquito net, according to the Nothing But Nets campaign, started in 2006 after a column written by Sports Illustrated's Rick Reilly. A $10 bed net can protect a family of four for up to four years, reducing the incidence of nocturnal mosquito bites - the primary means of transmitting the disease.

The people of The United Methodist Church, the United Nations Foundation, NBA Cares, Sports Illustrated and other partners are working to raise donations for bed nets. The grant will match those contributions dollar for dollar up to $3 million. Click the NBN logo above to contribute.
