"How Shall We Pray?"
Rev. Oden R. Warman
Text: Luke 11:1-13 — Jesus teaches on prayer
Jesus and his disciples were well schooled in prayer as part of their Jewish practice. The Shema and Kaddish and other prayers were committed to memory. They asked Jesus to give them a prayer that marked them as disciples and unify their community of faith. The Lord shared his prayer that still marks his followers today and offers them guidance for their spiritual lives. In sharing it we share in the life of Christ.

"Make Time for What's Important"
Rev. Oden R. Warman
Text: Luke 10: 38-42 - Mary and Martha
Luke tells the story of Martha, who welcomes Jesus into her home, but then does not find time to join Jesus. How do we welcome and make space for God and for others in the ways we order our own lives and the life of our communities? What can we learn from Mary and Martha? Take time for your Sabbath.

"Like a Good Neighbor ..."
Rev. Oden R. Warman
Text: Luke 10:25-37 - The Good Samaritan
How are our lives measured? Amos asserts that the plumb line is: worship God alone, keeping the covenant, and justice (not oppression) for the poor. Jesus states it even more simply: Love God and love your neighbor.

"Serving a Nation and Kingdom"
Rev. Oden R. Warman
Text: Luke 10:1-24 - Jesus trains his first missionaries.
Jesus sends out seventy ambassadors, with nothing more than words of peace, acts of healing, and belief in God’s realm. Paul urges gentleness with “transgressors.” On this birthday of our country, what lessons can we draw? What pattern of life will we follow? What healing might turn the world’s mourning and pain into dancing?
