“Amazing Authority”
Rev. Oden R. Warman
In Deuteronomy, the people are so frightened by God’s
power they seek guidance through intermediaries, prophets, so that they will not come in direct contact with the holy and die. The fullness of God again appears to the people in Christ, who heals and teaches with authority. Jesus continues to reveal his divine connection to his Father through his amazing authority.

“Who, me, Lord?”
Rev. Oden R. Warman
There is an urgency to today's texts — a sense that time is short and important things are happening. Jonah
prophesies to the Ninevites that unless they change they shall meet their doom in forty days. Jesus proclaims that the time is fulfilled, for the kingdom of God has come near. In these dramatic times we are called to faithful action. It matters that we can experience God's grace and find meaning in life by following Christ.

"It's Time to See the Light"
Rev. Oden R. Warman
During the Epiphany season, the manifestation of the Christ
unfolds. The Magi follow the star to the Christ Child, Jesus is baptized and receives affirmation of his messiahship, he proclaims the gospel, is revealed through word and sign and, finally, in the Transfiguration, glows with visible glory. Revelation is not instantaneous but progressive. That, too, is how we have come to know Christ, for the most part — not a sudden blinding light, but a light coming on here and there, as the darkness retreats, transformed.
