Dave began his writing career as a columnist, writer, regional editor, and entertainment editor for the Washington (Pa.) Observer-Reporter newspaper, where he twice won statewide awards for excellence in column writing and received honorable mention from the Pittsburgh Golden Quill Awards for features article writing. Also at the O-R, Dave designed and maintained the newspaper's first website. He also spent time as a public relations writer for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and as operations manager for PittsburghLIVE.com , the website of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper. He was an assistant editor in the magazines division of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in Warrendale, Pa., and continues to be active in freelance writing and website design.

As communications coordinator, Dave is responsible for making sure all of MLUMC's print and electronic communications vehicles operate in harmony. He also advises and works with clergy and lay leaders to effectively present their messages and is responsible for promoting MLUMC in the larger community through a variety of methods, including print and broadcast media and the church website.
