Dr. Gretchen Franz, Director of Music
The diverse and vital music ministry at MLUMC is led by Dr. Gretchen Franz. Dr. Franz is the director and organist, responsible for the adult, youth, and children's choirs. Under her direction, the Chancel Choir of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church continues its fine reputation for creatively adding to the worship life of the church. A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Franz grew up working in the family business, Rollier's Hardware. She has given organ recitals in New York and New Jersey as well as Pittsburgh. Over the years she has taught at Carlow College in Pittsburgh and has accompanied the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Penn State University, Gretchen received her master's degree in sacred music from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and earned her doctorate in Musical Arts at West Virginia University. She came to MLUMC to serve as the interim Director of Music following the untimely death of the church's Minister of Music in 1981, and has been here ever since.
