WHERE Learners GROW IN CONNECTIONS & FAITH

If you are looking to grow with faith or help others with their journey, learn more about our Christian Education programs below.

kids praise

Children are always welcome in our worship services, but we know that sometimes a kid-focused approach is needed. At MLUMC we try to give kids the best of both: we offer Kids Praise during part of the 10:45 traditional service. Children begin the service with their families, then head downstairs for an age-appropriate lesson that reflects the scripture readings and sermon lesson for the day. Children return to their families shortly before the service ends. All elementary age children are welcome to join. Teens may be helpers.

Vacation Bible school

Every summer at MLUMC we hold a week-long Vacation Bible School program for preschoolers though 6th grade. All community children are welcome to attend at no cost, and no church affiliation is required. The week centers around a theme and anchoring scripture, and includes many activities including crafts, music, games, and hands-on learning. The program is run by the Christian Education department with the help of many volunteers.

Youth Activities

MLUMC has a fun youth program with regular meetings after services on Sunday for lunch and activities. Our youth are active in the life of our church, volunteering at various events and local mission projects. We also take a trip each summer to Marion, VA to spend a week with Project Crossroads, a United Methodist Mission that serves people in three counties in Virginia. Youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to get involved in any of our meetings and events! Please contact Youth Director Sarah Stecker (youth@mlumc.org) for more information.

Nursery

Our nursery is run by volunteers and church employees with up-to-date clearances who report to our Christian Education Director. We accept babies and young kids in our program. Nursery starts at 9:30 on Sunday mornings and runs until the end of the 10:45 service. Parents are able to drop their children off in the nursery and attend our Sunday School classes and services. If you would like to remain with your child, we offer a 'wiggle room' in our Coffee Cafe during services. We also offer nursery care and kids activities during our Terrific Tuesday program.

Sunday School

Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church offers Sunday School classes for all ages and interests.

  • Kerygma

Kerygma members like to learn, question, and delve into both Biblical texts/ideas and current social issues. Through discussion we emphasize learning from each other. Our teachers/discussion leaders are class members, and guests also come to share their insights. Kerygma sponsors various mission projects, enjoys regular class socials, and hosts an annual weekend retreat. The class meets off the balcony at 9:30 and also offers the helpful option of zoom. All are welcome!

  • Mixers/Homebuilders

Mixers/Homebuilders is an adult-aged Sunday School Class. We meet in Wesley Hall on the first floor of the Education Wing. This is a speaker-based class covering a wide variety of topics. Please come join us, everyone is welcome.

  • Young Adults+

The Young Adult Plus Class welcomes members of all ages. Currently, most members are in their 30s and 40s.  We meet each Sunday at 9:30 in a classroom on the first floor of the Education Building. The class discussions are biblically based as we relate the scripture readings to our daily lives.

  • Children & Youth

Our children and youth Sunday School program is for all kids ages three years through senior high. Classes are taught by volunteers with current clearances and supervised by the Christian Education director. Each class includes a variety of activities and follows the Common Lectionary readings. Nursery is also open during the Sunday School hour for younger children.

  • Faith For Today

Faith For Today is our joint Summer Sunday School for adults. It is a speaker-based class with presentations on a new topic each week.

  • Coffee Cafe

Beginning at 9:30 until noon, Coffee Cafe provides refreshments and conversation for anyone dropping by.
