Missions & outreach

Our Missions & Outreach Committee consists of four sub-committees who are all dedicated to building up our community at MLUMC and beyond.

Hosted community events

Our Hosted Events Sub-committee is responsible for organizing community outreach events. They are responsible for leading the Fish Fry's, the Thanksgiving meal, and Fall Festival, as well as looking for new opportunities to reach out with new events to additional communities bringing the love of God to as many as possible. 

Local Ministry Partnerships

Our Local Ministry Partnerships Sub-committee connects with our neighboring organizations and businesses to extend a helping hand. They oversee the monthly Beulah Baptist Church, the Food Lift, and other events shared with partner organizations.

Community Outreach



Our Community Outreach Sub-committee works to help our neighbors in need through various works of service. They are in charge of the monthly Food Pantry distributions, the North Side Lunch program, bi-monthly East End Cooperative Ministries dinners, the Back to School Backpack drive, the Food Lift, and Advent Christmas Caroling.

Missions

The Mission Sub-Committee handles allocating the Mission Account funds from rummage sales and direct donations for local, national and global humanitarian purposes. They have donated to many organizations including: MLUMC's Food Pantry,

Virginia's Project Crossroad, and

The Nyadire Connection.

hosted community events

Fish Fry

The Missions and Outreach Committee will be hosting their Community Fish Fries during the 2026 Lenten Season. These Fish Fries will take place on Friday, February 20th, Friday, March 13th, and Good Friday, April 3rd. Eat-in as well as take-out will be offered. There will also be limited delivery to shut-ins and Food Pantry clients.

The menu for the Fish Fries will include:

· Fried & Baked Fish

· Chicken Nuggets (for non-fish eaters)

· French Fries

· Hush Puppies

· Macaroni and cheese

· Coleslaw

· Buns

· Fruit 

· Desserts

The Good Friday Fish Fry, will include a few additional items plus Communion elements offered by Pastor Tom.

There will be no charge for the Fish Fries, although donations will be accepted. Those able to donate will help ensure that those unable to do so can still eat.

Beulah Baptist FOOD DISTRIBUTION

MLUMC works with Beulah Baptist Church to provide fresh food from our Food Lift for their monthly food distribution. Volunteers drop off the Food Lift contribution and often stay to help with the distribution. Join us on Tuesday, January 20th to deliver food to Beulah Baptist.

Community Outreach

Food Pantry Distribution

Our Food Pantry helps to support our local community. We buy, pack, and distribute grocery bags to give some extra help to our clients. Join us on Saturday, January 3rd to distribute supplies to our food pantry clients.

The Missions and Outreach Soup Sale has been moved to January 11th. The following selections will be available for purchase:

Chicken and Dumpling

Creamy Potato

The cost is still $7 per quart or $4 per pint. Please place your order with Donna Chesleigh at AL59@aol.com or text to 412-716-1820 by January 7th indicating soup choice and size. Donna will respond with a confirmation of your order.
