Living a life of service

Missions & outreach

Our Missions & Outreach Committee consists of four sub-committees who are all dedicated to building up our community at MLUMC and beyond.

Hosted community events

Our Hosted Events Sub-committee is responsible for organizing community outreach events. They are responsible for leading the Fish Fry's, the Thanksgiving meal, and Fall Festival, as well as looking for new opportunities to reach out with new events to additional communities bringing the love of God to as many as possible.

Local Ministry Partnerships

Our Local Ministry Partnerships Sub-committee connects with our neighboring organizations and businesses to extend a helping hand. They oversee the monthly Beulah Baptist Church, the Food Lift, and other events shared with partner organizations.

Community Outreach

Our Community Outreach Sub-committee works to help our neighbors in need through various works of service. They are in charge of the monthly Food Pantry distributions, the North Side Lunch program, bi-monthly East End Cooperative Ministries dinners, the Back to School Backpack drive, the Food Lift, and Advent Christmas Caroling.

Missions

The Mission Sub-Committee handles allocating the Mission Account funds from rummage sales and direct donations for local, national and global humanitarian purposes. They have donated to many organizations including: MLUMC's Food Pantry,

Virginia's Project Crossroad, and

The Nyadire Connection.

Christmas Caroling

Please join us for Christmas caroling in the neighborhood surrounding the church on Sunday, December 14. This is a fun event that requires no special singing talent, just the willingness to spread good cheer to those who live near MLUMC! We will meet in Asbury Center at 6p.m. for a light dinner, followed by caroling, and then back to the church to warm up with cookies and hot cocoa. The entire evening will wrap up before 8p.m.

Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight; caroling booklets will be provided. Register with Kim Rhoton.

Beulah Baptist Christmas PJ Drive

MLUMC's good friends at Beulah Baptist Church are holding a Christmas party for the Hilltop community children on December 6th. With the help of the young lawyers division of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the celebration is welcoming children from the ages of newborn to 16. The children receive gifts of pajamas and slippers, Christmas stockings with hats, gloves and scarves, and individual presents purchased by the young attorneys.

MLUMC’s Food Lift is inviting you to help purchase and/or financially support the pajama gifts. Please reach out to us for more information on what is needed.

shim Giving tree

This Christmas, you can help families in our community by selecting an ornament from MLUMC’s Christmas Giving Tree. We are partnering with SHIM, our well-known local nonprofit that supports individuals and families facing food insecurity and poverty. Like years past, you can bring items identified on an “ANGEL” OR you can donate a Giant Eagle or Walmart gift card to help with grocery shopping.

Our Giving Tree is in the Narthex, and gifts may be provided in two ways:

·Take a white angel with an essential item listed and return the unwrapped items to the tree

·Take a gold envelope and purchase a Giant Eagle or Walmart gift card

The deadline for items to be returned is DECEMBER 24th.
